about Us
The Unwritten School is a cooperative learning space for diverse learners. Often the unwritten parts of a learning plan are the most powerful because they hold space for responsive teaching and learning. In our learning community, cultural and neurodiversity are educational assets that support guided inquiry-based learning that addresses the grade-level standards in many subject areas at once. Special Education services are available and students are trained as allies and collective members.
Classes and activities at Unwritten School are animal-assisted, experiential, and inquiry-based, with adaptations that meet learners at the precipice, where their greatest assets and areas for refinement meet. We believe that learning is more solid and meaningful when students feel invested. Thus, a part of every lesson plan is left unwritten, to allow for responsive teaching and learning. This method still allows us to address state standards (a skill and knowledge set intended to be introduced and solidified at each grade level) by emphasizing inquiry (knowledge seeking and skill-building) as a process that is grounded in authentic personal interest and a sense of ownership of and responsibility for the learning process.

The Unwritten School offers a small homey classroom and kitchen with an abundance of educational materials, puppets, science equipment, and books. The children also have access to:
